I am building an Azure Terminal Server for 20 users to login concurrent and use as their desktop. It will run clients for 3 separate databases as well as have Microsoft office and other normal desktop applications. My question is, how powerful do I need to make the server? I want to make sure I have enough ram, cpu, HD space ect for each user and not experience slow downs and also don't want to make it too powerful and destroy our budget. The database clients are programs like Sage and Quickbooks so nothing too resource heavy but users will be on the web, downloading files ect. Hi OP, Welcome to the community!! If you have chosen Microsoft Azure to host your terminal server then I suggest you to study and invest on Windows Virtual Desktop which is actually in preview. Hope this helps. One of the features of Microsoft Windows Server that is increasingly popular over the last few years is the Terminal Server and more recently RemoteApp. With higher internet bandwidth, working from home or from an offsite location is more feasible today than ever before. With few exceptions, most applications work within a Terminal Server environment, provided you have the appropriate client access licenses CALS to make them available on a Terminal Server Host. By doing so, your investment in existing applications, and the power of Windows desktop features and interoperability can be exposed over the Internet. A Terminal Server authenticates the user connections against the Active Directly list of users of groups that are maintained by your domain controller. In either case, it is always best to ensure that your Terminal Server is properly protected within the confines of a network firewall. With Terminal Server, a user can experience running a desktop over the internet with the Windows Remote Desktop Connection feature.
Instructions for Installing a Zen Server on Windows. Before you install any edition of Zen, you should be familiar with the following information:. To install on a terminal server, you must be logged on to the console of the server as a user with system administrator rights to install. This can either be the physical console on the server or a remote console session. Install as you normally would, using the steps in the documentation. The operating system automatically handles the changing of terminal server modes. Only one instance of the database engine may run on any terminal server platform. You cannot run separate copies of the database engine within two or more terminal sessions.
